Massicotte Crest
The horizontal blue line at the top is for monarchy. Louis the XIV was king of France when Jacques Massicot came to Nouvelle-France. Under the blue line, left side: as Canada is divided in provinces, France is divided in "departments". Jacques Massicot comes from the department of the Charente-Maritime which is on the Atlantic Ocean. It is represented by two seagulls: the blue gull for the sea, the green gull for the land. The golden pale at the center and, on the right, the "losange de gueules" (diamond shape) are part of the Aulnay's crest. Le Gicq is in the canton (township) of Aulnay.
The lozenge (or diamond shape) symbolizes an iron spear (one can easily imagine a lozenge at the end of a pick or a stick).
"de gueules" (mouths) means the color red; so: red iron spears = losanges de gueules.
On the left lower side, the Quebec flag, of course; on the right side, the plough, symbol of the soil that Jacques Massicot and his descendants have courageously prepared and grown.
