MAJOR GENERAL ROBERT F. BEHLER
Selected for reassignment as special assistant to the commander, Headquarters Air Combat Command, Langley Air Force Base, Va.
Maj. Gen. Robert F. Behler is deputy commander, Joint Command North, NATO, Stavanger, Norway. Joint Command North is a tri-service NATO command that shares its headquarters facility with the Norwegian national military headquarters for the armed forces of southern Norway. The general assists the commander in directing all activities of the joint, combined NATO organization ensuring the security and territorial integrity of Norway and the alliance's most northern flank. The general also serves as the senior U.S. military officer in Scandinavia.
The general entered the Air Force in 1972 as a distinguished graduate
of the Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps program at the University
of Oklahoma. He is a magna cum laude graduate of the College of Engineering
where he earned bachelor's and master's degrees in aerospace engineering.
The general is also a distinguished graduate of undergraduate pilot training
at Reese Air Force Base, Texas, and the U.S. Air Force Test Pilot School
at Edwards Air Force Base, Calif. He has commanded the 31st Test and Evaluation
Squadron, the 9th Operations Group and the 9th Reconnaissance Wing. He
is a command pilot with more than 5,000 flying hours in 65 types of aircraft,
including the SR-71 and U-2.
