Simple-Sat Relay Sensing Break Lockout
Auto-Mate Version 3.0 Revision 021298. (C)1998 John L. Zolkoske
Purpose:
Add on-demand contact closure capacity to satellite breaks. A contact closure can be added as an element of any satellite break, just like a spot. When the closure code is encountered in the satellite playback mode, it causes a 500 milisecond contact on the specified output relay 4,5,6, or 7. The two modified files are TEMPMAKE.EXE and PLAYSAT.EXE.
How to Use:
Enter the Template Programmer as usual:
From Main Menu:
- <F7> Edit Satellite Templates
- <F1 or F2> Work with Template
Then, build templates as detailed in your Auto-Mate operations manual. When you wish to add a contact closure as an element of a break, do the following:
- Press <F6> for Manual Entry.
- Enter the number of the relay you wish to momentarily close within the break you are working on. Available options are 4,5,6,or 7. For example, you would just type the number 4 in the first position of the entry field and then press enter. The following will appear in the 'Current' box at the top of the screen: *OUTPUT CLOSURE #4*.
A sample break may look like this:
122 04:10 P****LOCAL BREAK****
123 *OUTPUT CLOSURE #4*
124 STRAF1 WMRO Traffic
125 *OUTPUT CLOSURE #5*
126 SPSA1 PSA1
127 04:40 P***LOCAL BREAK****
Your output closures will be wired to a device that turns on and off throughput of audio when a contact is received. It depends on the nature of the device whether you use the same relay to turn the device on and off, or if a different relay is sent to turn it off. The audio source that is turned on by the relay closure must be wired directly to a hot pot on your console, and not through the relay or sound card of the PC. All audio through the PC is muted during the playback of a local break.
When these contacts are encountered from within Satellite Playback Mode, they are triggered, and then the next event plays in order.
Relay Card Wiring:
You can utilize output relays 4, 5, 6, and 7. (Outputs 0, 1, 2, and 3 are reserved for audio switching). To wire the outputs, solder to the following points:
on a PCL 725 card, wire the following pins:

Note: It is critical that you TURN OFF the feature of your Auto-Mate that sends a contact closure at the end of a break (OP4), liner (OP5) legal i.d. (OP6), or magic call (OP7) if you are using the corresponding relay closure to turn on and off a device. Otherwise, your unit could turn back on the device after a break or liner, for example. The end of break closure option is generally not used if you are using The Auto-Mate in conjunction with a Satellite Network.
To check and see if your system has these options turned on or off, check the following:
- From the Main Menu:
- <F8> Satellite Control Mode
- <F10> Audio Switching Schedules/
Set Relay Card Operations
- <F3> Set Relay Card Operations (Satellite)
- Make sure 'Output Closure After XXXX' are set to 'OFF'
- If not, toggle them to OFF, then press <F1> to save.
